We then headed down to Pucon, which was 700kms away so it was a long day spent on the bus, for a two night stop.  On the way we called into the Museo de Colchagua in Santa Cruz.  This is the country`s biggest private museum built by Carlos Cardoen who made his fortune dealing weapons and was in the top ten list of most wanted ciminals by the US government for many years.  It was a huge place,  a bit like his own personal Natural History museum which also had weapons and car collections.

We arrived in Pucon late on the first night and rushed to a nearby tourism agency to get measured up for our mountain and snow gear as we planned to walk up the active Villarrica volcano the following morning.  It`s erupted 59 recorded times the last being in 1992 and has a lava lake and a constant and visible steam vent.  That morning we were picked up at 7 and driven to the base camp of the volcano where the five hour climb starts, but when we got out of the bus the wind was so strong it was hard to stand still and the toxic dust made it impossible to see, so the walk was cancelled....gutted!  With the rest of the day to amuse ourselves we went our separate ways.  Nic went horse riding for the afternoon and I went canyoning, which involves walking down a river, abseiling waterfalls and sliding and jumping into pools - good fun!.

That evening we went to natural hot springs "Los Pozones" where there were six natural hot pools all very warm and it was a good way to relax and recover with a few beers after the days activities.

weather
sounds like you've hit a few bad patches of weather.

Just to inform you that we had the first lads night of 2008. The 40' LCD was rubbish, the brand new PS3 was OK (wireless controllers!), they had some new game called Prevo 2008 - pretty average. The succulent Lamb was average, as was the inaugrial lads night poker game.
So your not missing anything back here.

p.s. don't bother checking any premier league tables for a while, no point ruining your day

Hi Nic, hope everything is going fine and randog is leaving a trail of cleanliness wherever he goes. Say hello to the locals

Shame about the name
Hello, H here - thought it was time to jump on the bandwagon and post a comment! But our username looks a bit dodgy because they won't let us use spaces or symbols like '&'.

Really enjoying your blog - how you manage to update it so often I don't know, very impressive. So jealous of all your travels I can't really put it into words. The photos are beautiful and you both look tanned and healthy - Nic, have you lost lots of weight???

You won't see us in NZ, I'm afraid - my brother's wedding was on 25 Jan and we couldn't go. We consoled ourselves by splashing out on a 2 week trip to the Maldives in March, can't wait. Not quite the same as 8 months swanning around the Southern Hemisphere, but better than nothing! love H and Captain

Re: weather
