Arrived in Esquel after 9 hour bus ride across Patagonia into The Lake District, where Argentina borders Chile, separated by the Andes.  The views and landscape were beautiful and changed from being flat baron plains as far as we could see, to rocky rolling lush hills to the snow capped Andes - and we saw some pink flamingos along the way!  The bus journey flew by.

Esquel is a small town with an alpine feel about it due to it being a base for ski-ing and next to the National Parks.  Stayed in our most basic hostel yet - we had to use our own towels and pillowcases (cheers Joanne and Wendy for them) but what do you expect for a fiver each a night!!!

We went for a walk to see the nearby Lago La Zeta which was a beautiful lake with no one around and stunning views of all the mountains.  That afternoon we went to Trevelin, a short bus ride away, another place `foundī by the Welsh settlers and where Welsh is still spoken.  Nic dragged us into a traditional Welsh tearoom where we had afternoon tea and cakes and listened to Welsh choir music including a version of the Irish national anthem!!
