Show trip route
We met Olly & Charley (friends from London) in the Plaza de Mayo on our first day here. They are travelling before relocating to Australia where we hope to meet them in April. Since itīs blistering hot in this internet cafe and itīs taken half and hour to upload 2 photos Iīll keep it brief. Highlights of Buenos Aires then:
Our visit to Cafe Tortoni to watch a tango show. We saw a tango show that incorporated tango music, singing and dancing. The show took place in the back room on a tiny stage and it was spectacular to see the flamboyant and atheletic dancing in such a small area. It looked like the dancers would tumble off the stage at any moment, but somehow they managed to stay on there!
We also visited the birthplace of Tango, La Boca, which is a rough dock side neighbourhood with a small colourful centre that has been tarted up for tourists. My favourite part though was the Boca Transporter Bridge, which was based on the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge design and looked very strange against the blue sky of B.A.
Generally speaking we really enjoyed the city. The people were pretty friendly, by big city standards at least. The steaks were really tasty, apparently the flavour is different because the animals here eat grass in open fields whereas the ones we eat in Europe live in tower blocks and eat fried chicken and sawdust. Our only complaint was the ubiquitous dog turd. If you took 10 paces with having to dodge a dogger then you were very lucky. I have no idea how I managed to spend 4 days walking the streets and not feel the horrible sliding sensation once.
