Paul woke me this morning with chocolate for my birthday and it was the start of our worst eating day yet, donuts and ice cream anyone?!. We hiked it down to the ports to get our hands on Broadway tickets for tonight and I got my pick – Mary Poppins it was, Paul very graciously agreed.

Despite the insane winds, we trekked it to the Brooklyn Bridge, everything seems to be closer when you can see it. But after we found the pedestrian entrance we were eager to get an amazing view of the city and it really was fantastic.

We spent the afternoon around the Piers, the ferry took us to Liberty Island to see the famous Lady. Have to say, I thought she was going to be so much bigger but the sight is still impressive. The winds coming of the river drove us into the gift shop where the was much mucking around with ridiculous head gear – that we could not figure out how to wear properly and Liberty Barbie Dolls, what more could we want.

We hopped back on the ferry to Ellis Island. The Island has so much history and the Museum has done a really good job renovating the processing centre and including so many exhibits about the immigrants which essentially built America. We could have spent all afternoon there.

Paul decided to be a mad dog in the evening and go for a run around Central Park, considering I could barely stand up in the bitter winds I chose to stay inside and bask in the warmth.

It was my pick for dinner and I managed to take Paul to probably the only vegetarian place this side of Sydney, completely by accident but it was delicious.

Next stop was Times Square to see Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam theatre. Apart from the minimal leg room which drove Paulus insane, we loved the show. The sets and actors were legendary, loved it!
