Couple of boat trips later and we arrive on Ko Lanta. We met Mr T on the boat who convinced us to stay at his beachside resort (Lanta Family Resort) for $7 a night which seems to have been a good deal considering what other people were paying. Its peak season in Thailand so prices were doubling.
We stayed on Lanta 6 nights - really laid back relaxed guesthouse with great food, good music, nice beachfront bar and beautiful sunsets every night, we found it hard to leave. While there we did a discover diving day with Lanta Divers.  For beginners they are a very professional outfit. Cazza was our instructor for the day and was great. Even though we had a great day we realised that you need to do the full 4 day open water course (where you learn  in a pool first) as trying to learn the tasks in open water is alot to take in in a couple of hours.
From the time we met Mr T on the boat he was going on about their big party on the 15th December!! 01 Lanta Family Resort

! We had rented a motorbike out and spent the day driving around the island going to different beaches. When we got back at 7.30pm we thought we wouldn't get a seat but there was only about 3 people there. But by 10.30pm the band had kicked off (good old fashioned rock - chillis, ac/dc, metallica, GnR, pearl jam and then heavy stuff we didn't know, just for the locals) and the place was packed. There was a really good fireshow put on by two lads who work at the guesthouse. We nearly got to see some Muay Thai boxing when 6 drunken South Africans started acting the muppet. But after one swift knee to the chest and 40 locals moving in they were sent packing fairly quick. As usual we were the first there and the last to leave at 5.30am and were not feeling the best the next day after the Thai whiskey and the rake of beer.
