We spent 4 nights in Luang Prabang - not by choice but we are waiting to go on the Gibbon Experience (hope its worth it) up in the Northwest of Laos and can't get a place until 21st Nov so we're just hanging around.
There are loads of temples but none out of the ordinary so we're leaving them out. we did do a half day elephant trek, which consisted of getting a jeep into the jungle & a very small canoe with engine across a river before meeting our elephants. Our girl was fairly laid back as was our mahout, he decided paul should take over from him while he had a smoke. Paul didn`t mind & jumped at the chance. Its not very comfortable sitting on a giants neck while with every movement all the hairs (more like needles) are digging into your legs. We went to the amazing Tad Se waterfall, beautiful clear water that flows over limestone rock, surounded by the jungle.
We have our two day slowboat booked to bring us up the Mekong to Huay Xai where we start our Gibbon Experience, 8hrs each day with a stopover in Pakbeng for the night.
Luang Prabang is nice picturesque town but completely over-run with tourists and travel agents hungry for your money.
