We are flying up the coast now making up for the time we spent lying on Mui Ne beach.
Another easy bus ride from one hotel to another - only one flat tyre and we arrive in Hoi An early the next morning. Hoi An is a welcome change from tourist town Nha Trang. We spent the morning wandering the old town looking at stalls and trying to avoid the 200 tailors who try to get you in to buy silk dresses and suits. Everyone who goes to Hoi An buys some tailor-made clothes - thats everyone except us. That afternoon we visited Hoi An orphanage which was a great way to spend a few hours. When we arrived we met Jackie and Nick an English couple who visited the orphanage 5 years ago where they seen some terrible conditions. They set up a charity called the Kianh Foundation (named after one of the children) and they have made the most amazing changes at the orphanage. It was brilliant to see such a success story. There are now enough staff to care for the children properly and physiotherapists to help the physically disabled children. There are 63 children at the orphanage, 26 are disabled. We spent a couple of hours playing with the children and talking to Tuong a physically disabled boy who has brilliant English. He was so delighted to have a chat with someone new and we were amazed by his perfect English. The orphanage welcomes any visitors, we just brought along some toys and biscuits and they were greatly appreciated.
the website for Jackie and Nicks charity is www.kianh.org.uk - a very worthy cause. More thumbnails ...
