It seems like an easy dilema to be in, but we were truely undecided on which islands to visit. We wondered in Koh Tao had much to offer us as non-divers, or whether we would be best suited to one of the others. But with the full moon coming, we decided that Koh Tao woud be the relaxing island stopped that we were dreaming about, and we were right.

We arrived onto Koh Tao around 9am via ferry, and we took advantage off some of teh hotels and dve schools hat offer free tais to their accomodation. We knew that these were way out of our budget, so we hitched a lift and tehn went in search of some cheap digs. We spent our first night in a concrete hut a stones throw from the beach. When you sat outside the room, all you could hear were birds singing and the ocean lapping against the shore. We were positive we were going to liek it here.

We spent the first day napping, as the train we had got down from Kanchanaburi arrived at 3am, then our ferry left at 7am, so there was little time for sleep. Paul did manage to sleep on the train, but i was so engrossed in my Danielle Steele book, that the time, and Thailand, flew by. Later on that day, as the mid day sun had disapeared and it was beginning to set, we finally left the hut and headed for a swim. We were astonished at how warm the water was. So clear and the sort of temperature you would expect a bath to be, not the sea. It was easy to see why so many snorkellers and divers headed to Koh Tao. Even at this time of day, the water was crystal clear and you could see small fish swimming by the shore and crabs scattering along the ocean bed. We swam until teh sun had set, watching it disappear behind the rocks. We made our excuses and reluctantly got out of the water. We didnt do much on our first day, and that wa swhat made it so perfect, along with the amazing BBQ food taht we ate that eveing. Paul said that it was really nice to see me finally enjoying my food, and good food it was.

We spent the next couple of days lazing around the beach, not really doing much at all, it was heaven. Koh Tao has a really relaxed vibe to it, and it was great to bump into our friend Sam, who we have met in quite a few of our destinations. Our accomodation for the 2nd two nights were picked by Paul, and it wasnt the best. The bathroom only contained a toilet that sat in the middle of the room that did not flush, but that was no problem as we have come across this in many places, the major down side was the lack of sink and mirror! Oh my, i had to rely on Paul as my mirror, and although he was saying all the right things, for example i wanted assistance locating the huge spot on my chin so that i could put some consealor on it, Pauls response: 'What spot? I cant see any spots!'. Brilliant, my very own mirror mirror on the wall, whos the fairest of them all.

Scattered along the shore are bean bags and mats, all lit by candle light, so it was the perfect environment to kick back and relax in the evening, with fire shows lining the shore, latterns lighting the sky, and spontaneous outbursts of fireworks lghting up the shore line. We definately see ourselves returning to Koh Tao as we would both love to get our PADI diving licences, sadly this time, we were pressed for time and also money, as it isnt the cheapest thing to do.
