The afternoon we went up Table Mountain - very tough at times but the views from the top were nothing short of SENSATIONAL!! Well worth the hour and a half climb! Got ripped off on the way down via the cable car. Then to top it off, the cab driver quoted us R60. I said "It was R50 on the way here, I'll give you R50." The driver then told us to get out and we then paid the next driver R70!!! Think I'm doing this wrong...!!
First hostel is decent. We found our feet and then somehow turned a 20 minute stroll to get some lunch into a 4 hour trek to the V&A Waterfront, risking blisters and sunburn on day 1!! The first thing that jumps out is the locals all wearing hats and coats....it's bleedin ROASTIN!! Stunning views of Table Mountain and out to sea. After a very early night we were up at 5.00 (need to get back to work for a lie in!!!) to go great white shark diving in the cages. "Paul and Ryan" shouts the captain of the ship.......WRONG!! That's one person!! Dear me!! Anyway, we sailed out for approx 10 mins before dropping anchor and before you know it, there's a great white circling the boat-causing everyone to get their wet suit on and get in the cage!! I was 5th or 6th in and no sooner had I got in, a great white the size of a small car came within touching distance of me!! SH@@@@T!!! Then one came towards me showing its teeth, acting as if it was going to take the bait of 2 tuna fish heads! They weren't being aggressive, it has to be said, but still, an awesome experience. Meanwhile, Kala was on the top deck catching it all on camera!! She decided not to go in the cage, citing the fact that it would have been too cold...!! As if we weren't all feeling smug enough, on the way back we passed a whale!!
