Today is Valentines Day, Happy V day everyone!

To celebrate we decide to visit our new friend the Irrawaddy Dolphins. Tuk Tuk time from our guest house north (around 10kms) along the Mekong to a spot where the dolphins hang out. The government have a set fee for this which is supposed to go to conservation but apparently it just goes to them, we are finding this a typical affair in this country. $9 entry includes an hour boat ride to dolphin spot or $7 if you have a group of 3 or more. Our Tuk Tuk cost $10 return but if you are keen you can rent a scooter for around $6 and do it yourself, and you can stop off to visit other sites like the Temple on top of a hill which you pass on the way to the dolphins also there are a few rapids a few km's north of the dolphins, the guys in the boat while dolphin spotting will try to get a few bucks off you to go up to the rapids. Up to you!

Anyhow.... We get there, met a couple from the US and we share the costs, save $2 each which almost covers our nights accommodation. We get our boat and head off, around 30 seconds from the shore I spot a dolphin, the driver continues on for another 10 minutes, I think there must be a better spot! We get to his little spot..... no dolphins... Mmmm, a few words in Khmer to his mate, we sit around for a while, no dolphins! We head back, almost get back to where we started.... Dolphins everywhere! It's like we take a little trip to feel like we went on a boat ride then back. Anyway, dolphins are feeding around us fish are popping up all around as they chase them down excitement builds. They are a very cheeky bunch the Irrawaddy, we spot them and then they disappear and it is soooo hard to get a picture as they pop up then off they go again. Best to be there yourself and enjoy the moment rather than a picture or try taking pictures as I think a good image will be pretty rare. All in all our second encounter with the very rare Irrawaddy was amazing and a great way to spend V day with your loved one!
