Arrive at the border after a very slow 5km an hour bus ride while all the particulars are discussed, particulars being the amount of cash we need to bribe the Lao and Cambodian officals at the border. Surpise surprise today is Sunday and the bribe fees are double, which work out to be triple in the end, a bus of not so happy travellers as everyone knows how much the bribes are! Bribes are ok we are allowed to pass into Cambodia.
We arrive in Kratie, quite little city on the Mekong, grab some cash and find a place to stay, a guy pulls up on a scooter.. I have a room, $5... bargain let's go!
Check into our room, then head out to the street to see whats around and the first thing we see is a sign! Oh Shannon you will love this one.... we pissed ourselves!
Today is our final day in Laos our transfer to the bus is set for 7.30-8.00am. Don Det Bungalows restaurant opens at 7.00am so it's off to breaky there as the transfer picks us up from there which is super convenient as we only need to walk a few metres from our room! We get to the restaurant and it is closed, Annie is nowhere to be seen and the staff aren't too keen on opening up without her, the place is starting to fill up as there are a pile of people heading our way and everyone is keen to get food before the boat and bus. Emma gives one of the girls a decent tip to open up to get our breakfast, all is good our food is sorted, other people start to order, still no Annie, she runs the place and everyone seems a tad lost without her. Finally this baggy eyed stumbling Annie walks in to a restaurant in full flight around 12 people waiting for boat transfers and food she has had a MASSIVE night and can't quite get her head around it. Apparently she only got to bed a few hours before and she looked every bit of that. How funny, Annie the hard arse looking weak, she gives us a tip!!!!! We pay for beaky and she hands us $1US back and says sorry. Everyone must have been at this party because our boat driver rolls in around an hour late, everything looks like shit.... are we still going to get this bus which was suposed to leave now and we are still on the island??? Finally get across, tickets and cash gets changed by boat drivers and the dodgy road side travel agents, chuckle chuckle in Lao... we wait at least another hour! Bus arrives, on our way to the border.
