We woke early on Wednesday morning as we had a big trip planned out on Milford Sound.

The first challenge of the day was a up hill (or more like up mountain) drive towards the Homer Tunnel (how cool - wee Homer) The Homer Tunnel is a dark 1.2km tunnel that takes you through the mountain and starts the steep decline towards the sea on the other side. When you exit the tunnel the test on your brakes really starts as you get closer and closer towards sea level. It is quite an interesting drive (but I wasn't driving) with wee one way bridges on bends so that you can't see anything coming the other way until your are face on with them), but the mountains and waterfalls are unbelievable!

We finally reached Milford Sounds and booked a boat trip out so we could actually see the vastness of it! It was money well spent. We took a 2 hour boat trip out to the Tasman Sea, stopping to see many waterfalls and even stopping to go under few and look up at the source (some from Glaciers) and feel their spray! Although the weather when we were out at sea wan't great (VERY cold and windy), we still had a brilliant day and saw some amazing sights (again, the camera doesn't do these things any justice).

As we opted for an earlier sailing to avoid a busy boat, we were back on shore for 11am leaving us the whole day to explore around the areas surrounding Milford Sound, and enjoy a nice relaxing drive back up the hill, and along Milford Road, stopping to take in some amazing views of valleys rivers and waterfalls among many others, as we make our journey towards Queenstown! We can't wait for the rest of our journey up the west coast as we have been told that is just unbelievably beautiful! We have already concluded that New Zealand is like Ireland on steroids, it is so green and beautiful, but everything on a much greater scale!

Speak again soon,
