Today we left Invercargill and after a boring drive from Dunedin south, we took the advise of the guy who owned our campsite and took a scenic route towards Milford Sound. The weather had wasn't great and we were driving along the coast on cliffs with a very strong antarctic crosswind that was grabbing our van perfectly making it quite a scary drive, but with Paul's careful driving, we made it to the mountain ranges again, which is where the beauty really began. We were back to driving alongside beautiful lakes and although still cold the winds had died down and the sun was out. We stopped at Lake Manapouri (which was stunning) and Lake Te Anau (the second largest lake in NZ, which was also very beautiful).
Then we were on the road to Milford Sound. This was a very beautiful road, with Lake Te Anau on one side and mountain ranges on the other and driving towards snow capped mountains, the beauty is hard to describe, and even pictures don't do it any justice. We arrived at Lake Gunn where we camped at the side of a lake with the mountains reflecting off the water with wee ducks on the shore, it really was beautiful (and we would never have known about it if it weren't for the guy at out camp site.
Tomorrow, we move onto Milford Sound!
