The Big Banana

As we moved south, we looked on the map and saw Coffs Harbour. I new there was a reason why i wanted to go there and remembered. I had just finished reading a very good book on Australia, called Down Under by Bill Bryson (If going travelling in Oz it is worth a read) and he had mentioned it a few times as the home of the Big Banana.
Before in the travelpod, we have mentioned going to certain BIG things around Australia - The Big Mango, The big Pineapple and we even stopped at the Big prawn . But it all started 40 years ago with the Big Banana at Coffs harbour. Essentially these places are just big oversized plastic structures looking to bring in tourists and make some money. And of course as we are tourists, we visit them. But we are also smart travellers, and we only "spend a penny" when we stop at these places.
However they are amusing and i am sure we will continue to stop at them if we pass them in future.
