Well...
We got the van around 6.30pm pm on the saturday.
A bit later then we wanted as we need to go somewhere to park overnight.
We decided on heading towards the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise. We hit the Pacific HighWay about 8.30pm in pursuit of somewhere... anywhere.
We hit 11pm and still couldn't find anywhere. I was far to tired to drive anymore, so we risked parking in Robina Train Station Car Park whic was about 10KM from Surfers Paradise..
We woke next morning... still alive and safe and headed round to the car park of Hungry Jacks (Burger King) to plan our way ahead. After using the washing facilities of said fast food chain, we got the van in order and headed to Kirra Beach
The beach was lovely and it was great being near water again and yet another ocean - The Pacific this time.
After wandering around we were surprised to find electrical BBQ's all along the beach. They were just big hotplates where you hit a button and you just had to throw your food on top of it and cook it. We were completely fascinated by this.. and of course we had to go to a shop and by food and have a BBQ (not exactly a real BBQ due to absence of coal/fire etc but it was free.
We also had the opportunity to stand in 2 states at the same time - Queensland and New South Wales, which of course Ciara found amusing.
As there were Car Parks all along Kirra beach we decided to stay there for the night. (We were determined not to have to pay into a caravan park as the whole point of having a van was to save money. However this did not stop us going to the local caravan park and stealing power off them by charging our mobile phones in their Toilets. Oh the life of being a free spirit asnd living in a van!
The following morning i had a chat with a lady across from us who had also stayed in her own motor home in the same car park that night. It was then she informed us that there was actually a book available that you could buy (about $45) which tells you where all the free caravan parks in Australia are. How about that for a touch of luck....
Of course we went and bought it, and it is now our bible.
That day we went on to Warner Brothers Movie World for the day and we had a great time. (photos will be uploaded in due course).
Some great roller coasters, a brilliant police Academy stunt show and Ciara even got to meet the Wily Coyote... What a day.
We then decided to head back North of Brisbane in search of Wylie Caravan park (which of course was free).
We found it.... 6 days later we are still there. Have met some great new friends. Reason we are still there - Van trouble.
Will fill ya all in in our next installment of the travelpod with
- Our new friendS
- The troubles with Homer (Our van)
- Our future plan.
