We left Mersing for the Tioman Islands on Tue 9th May 2006 With a Phil and Julie who we had met on our 1st day in the Perhentian Islands.
We went across on a very packed 5.30pm Ferry (RM 70 return each) and arrived at ABC resort just before 8pm....It was pitch black.
Not having any accommodation booked we looked around for somewhere Suitable to stay, and stumbled upon Nazri's 2 place (ABC Cabanas) and got 2 interconnecting rooms in 2 chalets up on the hill for RM40 (About 7 quid) per night.
Next day when we were up and about we found the place to be very quiet, and not much of a beach (However the views on the island are awesome - majority of it is tropical rain forest and untouched). We also found out that we could not stay until sunday as expected, as there was yet another public holiday and the Whole island was booked up for the weekend.
We decided to walk into Tekek which was the main "town" as such on the island (Well they had an airport and duty free).
Although the weather was lovely, our first observation was that this part of the island was very dirty and had been let go a bit. After finding out in Tekek that there was definately no accommodation for the weekend, we ducked out of the thunderstorm and bought some duty free (alcohol) for the next few nights - as there was basically nothing else to do. - Our carryout consisting of tins of red wine and a bottle of vodka - and yes, yet again, Ciara could not find Peach Shnapps or WKD or an alcoholic dring that did not taste of alcohol.
We then walked the 3km back to our resort and spent the evening on the balcony drinking and having a good laugh with Phil and Julie. We also found the tinned red wine to be absolutely gorgeous.
Come 11.30pm, 3 of us were rat arsed and 1 still sober - guess who? Ciara is definately missing the Icy toxic sugary blue.
The Thursday was a less energetic day due to 3 hangovers, so we decided to take a short trek to Monkey Beach.
After trekking through the rain forest for 20 mins (bringing back memories of week previous) we just found another resort which was far nicer than ours, so we hung about the beach there - for some reason all being fascinated by watching hermit crabs on the beach choosing a new shell for their home.
Little else to do, we got the ferry back on Fri morning at 8am and made our way back to Mersing.

Point to note - at least we were free from mosquitos for a few days on the island however it appears that sand flies took a liking to me. And we did spot a lot of Lizards (Water monitors) just strolling about - about 2-3 foot in length, and Flying Foxes and Flying Squirrels
