We did so much walking today! We wandered down one of the main streets; Via Nazionale and ended up at the Piazza Venezia. We saw the biggest building we have ever seen, the Monumento a Vitorrio Emanuele II. Absolutely stunning.
We are still fearing for our lives when crossing the road. We have found it highly advantageous to cross with a nun! They seem to be the only people the drivers slow down for. Apparently it is bad luck to hit the clergy. We saw a man tonight who was doing a good imitation of the 'Frogger' game by crossing on a zebra across five lanes of traffic. We wish we had videoed it. He did survive by the way.
We got some great shots of the Roman Forums from up on the hill as well as several other churches, ruins etc. We then went to have a look at Circus Maximus and had very tired legs so we cheated and caught the metro home.
Had a re-group at our hotel in the afternoon. We headed out at about four pm to see the Trevi Fountain at twilight. It was very busy. Packed with every variety of tourists. It was a mad house complete with hare christianers, hawkers, police and clergy.
We continued our hoilday tradition of meeting/seeing famous people. We ran into Vince Colossimo right in front of the fountain. He was very friendly and we had a nice chat - mainly about the floods - and Paul got a great photo. Definitely a contender for the Who magazine $50 competition.
We had dinner and then walked down to the colosseum for some night time shots. It was very quite around there, not very many people around.
Caught the metro home again as we are stuffed!
Ciao for now :)
