We´ve decided to
head to Malargue for a trip to see the Payunia Reserve as we could not
get onto the Laguna Diamente trip. It´s about a 2 hour trip from San
Rafael with lovely views of mountains and volanoes.

We found an
hotel-apart which was pretty cheap and then found out why it was
cheap...there was no kitchen equipment so our plans of cooking for
ourselves were foiled! Also, our fridge makes a disturbing noise which
we realised sounded just like Darth Vadar! It looks like it was built
in the early seventies...

Siestas are taken more seriously the
further north we go as it is getting hotter. The only down side is that
restaurants do not open until 9ish and most people do not start to eat
until 10pm by which time we are starving! We did find a really good
Parilla restaurant where Paul had trout with lemon and I had Canneloni
and it was the best meal we´ve had for a while.

Our
tour to the Payunia reserve was amazing. It was quite a drive out to it
- about 1.5 hours. We were then surrounded by black and red lava with
golden pampa growing on it. The scenery was amazing and hard to
describe so I will leave that to the photos. We did walk up to a red
crater and had views of the valley below. We also saw an armadillo
whilst driving along which was pretty cool :)

We are off to
Mendoza tomorrow. The buses were at strange times - either 2am or
3.15pm so we have opted for the 3.15pm (arrives at 9pm ish).
