Thurs 7 Feb
We drove to San Martin today following the Siete Lagos route (7 Lakes) which was beautiful. Forest, and er, lakes. Our little Fiat Uno was overtaken a lot but Paul drove very well over the gravel road.

We stopped by a lovely river for lunch but were inundated by Argentines (weird I know). We didnīt mind until one car thought that everyone would love to listen to their music, which was dire even without the bass distortion.

We arrived around 3ish to find our hostel we had confirmed was now full, grrr. Not want you want to hear after driving for 6 hours and you just want to crash. We tried a couple of other places but they were also full. We then tried a 2 star hotel which was miles out of our budget and asked if they could recommend anywhere for us. After a phone call he gave us directions to some apartments which were in our budget. The apartment is gorgeous with a lovely kitchen, lounge with cable tv, bedroom and bathroom :)

We went out and bought food to cook a stew and happily cooked in the evening whilst watching some films with spanish subtitles. Hmm, havenīt quite got the hang of this backpacker lifestyle...

Fri 8 Feb
Nice lazy start today. We decided to walk up to one of the lookouts over San Martin which took about 45mins of uphill. The views were lovely at the top though it was a little hazy. The walk was through forest on Mapuche land.

San Martin, for us, is a lot nicer. Smaller and tranquil - exactly the type of place we love. Completely different to Bariloche which is 20 times as busy (at the moment)!
