The Cruz del Sur bus was amazing! Lots of leg room, air conditioning, electronic screen showing where the bus was going and at what time (so we didnīt have to keep checking with the attendants we were on the right bus!). The crossing to Chiloe was pretty quick. A Cruz del Sur boat was waiting for us and as soon as we were on, the boat departed.

The drive down was pretty quick as we were on the Pan American highway. Weird to think that we were near the bottom of it and the top is in Alaska. We stayed at El Mirador in Castro which had a lovely view of the sea.

We booked a trip to go to the Chiloe National Park. The guide only spoke spanish so we couldnīt understand everything but we had both read the Chapter in our guide about Chiloe so had a fair idea of what she was talking about.

Our first stop was at Nercon which has the only church with a garden in it. We were able to go up a level and walk around the eaves of the church which was pretty stuffy. Next was Chonchi which was a pretty little village with a painted church. We walked right up to the top in this church which was pretty high! We stopped for lunch at Cucao which was a roast pork - very tasty and cheap :)

Next we went to the national park and went for a walk for 1.5 hours with the guide and then onto the beach for a while where we were fighting off those flies again.

Woke up on my birthday to an earthquake which we later found out to be 5 on the richter scale! We had a lazy morning and got the bus at 11am to Ancud, a pretty seaside town. We arrived just in time for lunch where we treated ourselves to a lovely dinner at Casa Mar. I had steak stuffed with shrimp and mushrooms and Paul had Congrio (fish).

The afternoon was spent sitting at the fish harbour watching the fishing boats arriving back with their haul. It was mainly shellfish coming in. We then walked up to a fort which had lovely views over a bay where the fishing boats went.

In the evening we had cake and then I beat Paul 3 times at Crib :) Made my day even though Paul did not get me a birthday present...
