14 Jan
Another early start for a bus to El Chalten which was 4 hours. The road was pretty good - there was some ripio (gravel) but not as bad as expected.

El Chalten is the prettiest building site in argentina. All the roads were being dug up so a lot of dust was flying around. Aside from that, El Chalten is in a stunning location in the Los Glaciars National Park.

When we arrived in El Chalten we stopped at the visitors centre for a talk and they said the weather had been pretty bad for the past two weeks but that the weather was clearing today. We could see the very bottom of Fitz Roy but not much else.

As it was sunny, we decided to make the most of the weather and walk up to Laguna Capri. It was another lovely walk, which gradually went up. The legs were a bit unresponsive after Torres del Paine but we managed to get to the laguna for some views of Fitz Roy (which was still under cloud).

In the evening I noticed the people next door taking pics, so I had a look out of the window and we could see Fitz Roy clearly!

Tues 15 Jan
Paul woke up for sunrise and we still had a clear view of Fitz Roy. I preferred sleep but I did know he had left the room!

We had the best breakfast so far - toast, jam, juice, hot choc, ricotta cake, then croissants came out.

We decided to walk to Laguna Torres which had views of Cerro Torre. The walk took about 6 hours and was very pretty and hot. We had lunch overlooking the laguna, a glaciar and Cerro Torre.

Wed 16 Jan
We still had clear views of Fitz Roy but our legs were too sore to repeat the Laguna Capri walk. We did manage to walk to Los Condores (but did not see any condors) and another mirador where there was noone of the track.

In the afternoon we took the Chorrillo del Salto track to a waterfall which was packed with people sunning themselves on the rocks.
