Today we had our first long bus journey of our trip. We went up Ruta Cuarenta (Route 40) which is famous in this part of the world. It runs down the entire length of Argentina parallel to the Andes. And it is mostly gravel with the odd pothole to breakup the road slightly.

It was 14 hours from El Chalten to Los Antiguos, 12 of which were on the gravel roads of Route 40. The scenery was mostly barren steppe, semi-desert with only a few tussocks of grass to break it up. The are big valleys with some interesting cliffs and rock formations but generally pretty tedious.

We didnīt have a toilet on the bus or air conditioning, but we stopped regularly so it wasnīt too bad. The leg room was pretty good.

We were very happy when we got to Los Antigous where luckily we had pre-booked our accommodation and could collapse directly into bed.
