An amazing day today. We booked onto the Magallanes penguin trip which sails at 4pm and is for 5 hours. We spent the morning pottering round the centre and went to the cemetry which was stunning. Lots of cyprus trees and impressive mausoleums. We noticed that some of the graves had christmas decorations on them and after walking for a while, started to hear christmas music. It sounds extremely eerie as it sounded like it was coming from the graves themselves until we realised that it was coming from musical cards that people had left. What made the cards sound creepy was the batteries were dying and Jingle Bells wasnt sounding too good!

We took a shuttle to the ferry port and went on the Metlinka passenger ferry to Magallanes Island. It took two hours to get to the 1km square island and luckily the weather was with us.

To give you an idea of how many penguins there were on the island, there are 70,000 breeding pairs - 140,000 penguins! Everywhere we looked there were penguins. Managed to not step on any!!

We spent an hour walking a track that went up to the lighthouse which was in the middle of the island and then back to the ferry. On the way home we managed to spot a couple of dolphins as well :)

NB We debated about what to call this entry. Paul wanted Bugger, thats a lot of penguins but I overruled him :)

I'm well impressed that you didn't step on one! Never seen so many - was there a lot of poops?
