More croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast :-)

Today we went on a 4x4 safari across the centre of the island. After we finally got across town (busy due to xmas eve shopping) we head inland up in to the mountains. It was raining on and off but it didnīt matter as the waterfalls were one of the main attractions.

The road up to the top of the pass over the mountains was a little bumpy but not as rough as we had been led to expect. We drove over the top of a dam and stopped on the top. We didnīt realise that it isnīt normally overflowing. We stood in 2 or 3 inches of water as it flowed over the top while the driver fed eels up to 1 metre in length.

We carried on up the valley passing large number of waterfalls in to the main crater. They get up to 9metres of rain (200 rain days) so it was very green.

We had lunch at a hotel at the top. It started raining really heavily and our guide wasnīt sure that we would make it back down. The track got really rough on the way down and we were bounced all over the place (perfect just after lunch...). The track had turned in to a river in places and we couldnīt see where we were supposed to be going. Luckily the driver had done the trip often so new where it was supposed to be, but I think he was going faster than normal to make sure we didnīt get stuck up there.

Christmas on the beach tomorrow!
