Visited temples and palaces
Greetings from crazy Bangkok!
After three weeks of country living I enjoyed the chaotic energy of the capital that hit us smack bang on our faces as we stepped off our bus.
We were staying in the Silom area this time, and it turned out to be the best area we've stayed in, in Bangkok. We were within walking distance of some great restaurants and bars and the whole place seemed to come to life at night.
We were only in Bangkok for a couple of days before we started our journey towards Indonesia but we managed to visit two of the must see sights in Bangkok - the Golden Palace and Wat Pho
The Palace is an incredibly beautiful collection of shrines and buildings that took my breath away, even though it was my second visit here. Giant golden stupas, intricate carvings, statues of various buddhas and mythical creatures. There's even a buddha carved out of a giant piece of jade that was discovered by a monk who noticed the green precious stone underneath a shell of plaster in which the buddha was hidden.
Wat Pho which is a temple close by to the palace. It was also amazing but this time in a non glitzy way. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves .
While we were there we were stopped by a group of students who interviewed us as a way to practice their English. They were really sweet, and even gave us a gift at the interview to thank us for our time.
And before we could say 'Sawadee Ka' our whistle stop tour of this city was over and we found ourselves on a train to Hat Yai. The journey there was great as the scenery is stunning
Once we got to Hat Yai we would continue our journey onto Penang, to catch a boat heading to Indonesia.
We both couldn't wait!
See you in the jungle!
Lots of love
Karen and Paul
