Where I stayed
What I did
Ate street food, wandered the streets.
The flight from Manila to Kuala Lumpur was just over 3 hours. The islands we passed over on the way were the typical image of paradise (see the photos in the last blog, I don't why we put them there!).
From the short journey from the airport to the city I could already tell that I was going to prefer Kuala Lumpur to Manila. It is greener, more modern and organised. We quickly jumped on the metro and headed to our hostel. Suzies is a lovely place, it's really clean, has a great communal area and is in a great location. It reminded me of the hostels in Japan.
We had dinner from a street stall in Chinatown
Karen used to work a lot in Kuala Lumpur, so on one of the days she took me to her old stomping ground. It is an area called the Golden Triangle and it's very modern with huge swanky malls and 5 star hotels. Karen used to stay in the Ritz Carlton which is not that much different from our hostel. ha ha, I wish! We had a lovely lunch of " Dim Sum" but were left feeling rather underwhelmed. The service was average at best and the staff very frosty. I think we prefer the street stalls and the people who own them. They are a lot more warm and friendly.
We were only in Kuala Lumpur for 3 days as we are coming back with my Parents. From those 3 days I can tell that they will really like it. It's not too chaotic like most South East Asian cities, the people are really friendly and there are great places to eat.
Our next stop is the island of Langkawi, or rather a boat just off the island as we will be working on it! For free! Work, it hurts just to write the word. I suppose I should explain. We found a website that lists hosts/jobs, where you work for a few hours for free in exchange for a room and food. We found this boat and liked the look of it as we both want to pick up sailing experience.
If all goes according to plan we will be on it for 2 months. So see you on deck you land lovers!
All our love, Paul & Karen xxx
