Where I hear you ask? The question is not where but why!!! I will tell you why. It's the place where I finally witnessed my beloved BIRMINGHAM CITY WIN A MAJOR TROPHY!!!
Typical that they reach a Wembley cup final whilst I am traveling. Thankfully and miracusley I managed to watch it live in our bedroom. I never imagined that we would get to see it in this town that is on the Laos / Vietnam border. We really were in the middle of nowhere. Luckily the Vietnamise love English football, hence why it was on. As you can imagine I was jumping all over the place as was Karen! To beat Arsenal and score in the last minute, well you could not ask for more. It is the first time I wished I was back home since we have been traveling but I am glad that all my mates were there to witness it
I suppose I better talk about other things other than football.
The journey from Laos to Vietnam was a lot easier than we had been told. The border posts are on hill tops with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and the officials do not ask for huge bribes for doing the work they are paid for.
So it is bye bye Laos. What an amazing country. By far my favourite place in South East Asia and my 2nd favourite of the trip so far. Why? Because the country is beautiful and the people are so different than their neighbours. The Thais claim that their country is the land of smiles, well that may have been the case 20 years ago but in our view Laos is way ahead in terms of friendliness. The people are very special.
Now Vietnam. We have heard constant horror stories about the Vietnamise trying to rip you off and constantly hassling you. Well if Dien Bien Phu is anything to go by then people have exaggerated. Within the first few hours we were sitting outside our guesthose with the owner and another local girl learning Vietnamise. No trying to sell us stuff, no ripping us off just a group of people having a laugh.
We only had 1 day here as we were getting a bus to Hanoi early the next morning. None of this is important though. Or is the fact that Vietnam is the 30th country I have visited (I do want to see more though) the only imortant thing in this blog update is that BIRMINGHAM CITY HAVE WON A MAJOR TROPHY AND WILL BE PLAYING IN EUROPE NEXT SEASON!
See you in the Capital.
All our love Paul & Karen xxx
