Where I stayed
As you already know, we are 4 weeks behind on this blog (again) but we are going to blitz it in the next week or so!
So back to the 8th January which also happened to be my birthday! :)
I never thought that I would be waking up on my 36th birthday on a train heading to Bangkok! To have my Parents and my lovely Karen there too was all too surreal.
We checked back in to the hotel we originally stayed at 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks have flown by. I suppose that's why they say "Time flies when you are having fun." We chilled for a couple of hours before heading to The Marriott Hotel for their award winning buffet. We had free flowing wine which we took advantage of and each of us had about 8 courses each! Needless to say that the food was wonderful. Ahhh, to be having red wine and cheese again! How I have missed those lovely things!
After what seemed like 10 hours of eating we decided to go back to our hotel by river boat. It was a great idea because we got to see a completely different side to Bangkok. There are wooden shacks literately falling into the canal, yet people are still living in them. There were also floating shops which my Parents loved and loads of little kids shouting hello as we floated past. Too cute. It certainly beat getting a taxi back to the hotel. Bangkok traffic is a nightmare! It is because they do not have a huge metro system which means that everybody travels by road. Hopefully they will be expanding the metro and skytrain in the next few years.
In the evening we just chilled at the hotel as we were all too full from the lunch. I wonder why? lol. Bless Karen, she had a whole day planned out but the lunch and my present (more on that later) were more than enough. Actually they were too much!
In fact the day they left, Karen & I were so sad that we did not leave our hotel room!
There was something to look forward to though! My present. Which was 5 days on a "liveaboard" dive boat in the world famous (for diving) Similan and Surin Islands. 14 dives in 4 days! Woo hoo.
See you under the water!
Love Paul xxx
p.s I would just like to say a big Thank you to my love Karen for a wonderful birthday and present (you spent too much though!) and my Parents for a brilliant 3 weeks and coming out all this way to see us. xxx
