Where I stayed
We could immediately tell why they call St. Petersburg Russia's prettiest city. We walked all over the place as its the best way to see it. The architecture is amazing, the river and canal walks are beautiful and the world famous Hermitage Museum deserves its reputation
It seems like Friday is THE day to get married in St. Petersburg. As we walked around we counted no less than 17 brides(!!) taking photos by the rivers, monuments or in the gorgeous gardens. When a couple gets married they will also go to a bridge and attach a padlock as a sign of their eternal bond. (Thanks for the insight Anna!)
St. Petersburg also has loads of underground bars, one of which we went to at 00:30 at night in sandals and shorts! We met some great people in our hostel from Darcy the American girl who has coninced me to the virtues of couch surfing, to Sarah and Jenny the girls from Melbourne who we drank straight vodka with for most of Saturday night and finally Yuri the Ukranian who gave us loads of information about the eating habits of Russians as well as Pascha the stoned hostel guy who kept playing us his music. This is why we love hostels. You would never meet such people in a hotel.
Now we go on another over night train (we have food with us) to Vladimir. We get off at 05:00 a.m, then locate a bus to take us to Suzdal which is meant to be very pretty.
Dasvidanya people! Love Karen & Paul xxx
