Itinerary for after Wedding
Entry 77 of 166 | show all | print this entry |
"One who conquers himself is greater than another who conquers a thousand times a thousand men on the battlefield. Be victorious over yourself and not over others." Lord Gautama Buddha
I have been trying to work out what we'll do after the wedding. This is what I think so far. I will probably hire a small bus, but it depends on how many people are coming and of course not many people bother to tell me what they are planning.
Itinerary for 7 July - 14 July Fri 7 July - Bangkok. Rest day. Do whatever you want.
Sat 8 July - Depart Bangkok at around 0530. Go to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Takes about 1 and half hours to get there. On the way we'll pass through Nakhon Pathom, which maybe the oldest town in Thailand, dating from around 300 BC. It was the principal town in the Dvaravati Kingdom in 500 to 1000 AD. Eat breakfast at or near the floating markets.
Continue on to Kanchanaburi town (another 2 hours or so). See the bridge over the River Kwai. In human terms it was the most expensive bridge ever built with 1 person dead for every 4m of track. Almost 16000 Allied prisoners of war died and about 50000 - 100000 conscripted local labourers (ie. Burmese, Thais, Malays, etc) Walk over the bridge, visit the war cemetery and the JEATH War Museum and have some lunch (maybe on a floating restaurant).
Go to a hotel in afternoon for swim and relax. Dinner at hotel or in town?
Sun 9 July Catch early morning train to Nam Tok. Meet up with the bus there and drive to Slangklaburi / 3 Pagoda Pass. Go to Burma for those that want to. Sorry, this will be quite a bit of driving but should be interesting scenery both on the train and in the bus. I decided to do this because it is a weekend and so some of the other attractions may be too busy and also I may need to get my visa renewed, so that gives you a chance to walk around in Burma for an hour. Sleep in a guesthouse in Slangklaburi.
Mon 10 July Return to Kanchaburi. See Tiger temple in afternoon. See http://www.walkingwithtigers.org/?gclid=CKaI1o_OkoUCFR9ESAodkW3UxQ or http://www.tigertemple.org/Eng/index.htm The temple took in injured tigers and other animals to help them, but has since become a tourist attraction and has many tigers that you can see and maybe touch.
Tues 11 JulyGo to Erawan falls. A beautiful multi leveled set of waterfalls. In afternoon drive to Hua Hin.
Wed 12 JulyRelax at beach in Hua Hin. I haven't planned anything at Hua Hin. We can make it up as we go. Spend time at beach and explore around the area.
Thur 13 JulyRelax at beach in Hua Hin.
Fri 14 JulyReturn to Bangkok

Claire - I 100% agree.
Later on in here I may have mentioned my thoughts on the place and I have definitely recorded it in the forums and to tourists who ask about the place.
We went to the temple as my Mum wanted to - and she wanted to as it was promoted on TV in Australia.
