"I have opinions of my own --strong opinions-- but I don't always agree with them."
- George Bush, former U.S. President Hi - I just realised that I never got around to writing something that mentions Kanjana and I going to Borneo. We did - in July. So anyway, here it is. I will try to find some pictures to put with this when I get back home next month. OK, well Kanjana has never been outside of Thailand before, so I organised for us to go to Kota Kinabalu to visit Sue and David in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Kanjana got her passport and I organised the tickets (at a time when I had some money) and off we went. I liked being back in Borneo and it was good to see David and Sue again; but I think Kanjana enjoyed herself the most as she was seeing a new country and meeting some new people.
David and Sue were quite busy but everything seemed to work out well and they looked after us very well. We had a visit to an island off KK and also visited the bird park amongst other things. We looked through the shopping malls and the Philipino markets and I discovered something I had not thought about. When Thai people travel to most other parts of the world - the food they eat is generally not as fresh and tasty as they get at home. Thailand has some great food and a great variety (as long as you like rice) and it was interesting to watch Kanjana eat new foods. Whilst for me, trying new foods in other parts of the world is something enjoyable and interesting - it wasn't so much for Kanjana. Don't misunderstand this - she is not fussy, but she just found the food available was similar to Thai food but not as good quality, more expensive etc. I hadn't thought of that before - the Thais really don't know how spoilt they are.
Anyway - it was a short but good trip. We had organised to catch up with Sue and David again in Cambodia in January, but I have work now that has cancelled that. So hopefully I will see them in Thailand when they come to visit their daughter who is moving there with her husband - Adam Lesley. See ya Paul PS - I said I would let you know what happens with the house buying in Bangkok. For a couple of days everything looked like it would go ahead and we'd get the house, but then the bank changed their mind and so we can't get the house. Although, when I rang Kanjana yesterday the lady still hadn't sold her house and so maybe we'll think about it again when I get back - only a few more weeks to go.
