We arrive in Chiang Mai at 6.00am we're both groggy and have a Thai man shouting at the top of his voice various instructions. We get a lift to a hotel but we move on and spend he next hour looking for a place as they're either still shut or full. We eventually find a place and cash point with us having breakfast so morale is restored. We investigate the city (Thailand's 2nd biggest) seeing three temples in quick succession all of them pretty but by the third one we're a bit bored and flaky. We try and find a temple that we've seen on a postcard but to no avail and at this point if i saw another temple I'd probably scream.  Already Thailand has a distinct character to other countries we've visited; there's so many more western people around sometimes more than the locals and the traffic is also more congested mainly due to the amount of cars compared to motorbikes of other Asian countries which means you can't have the casual abandonment of walking across the road we've had so far. We head over to the night market or the dusk market in our case and it's huge with an innumerable amount of stalls selling everything you could want except decent t-shirts, after finishing there we're knackered having a drink in a bar where an English guy can barely stand up (no not me) before we go back to the hotel.
