We wake up really tired and both try and get some sleep on the way to the Great Wall (3 hours) We arrive and are told our route for the trip which is 8 kilometres holy shit! I had imagined that we would be doing it as a group but you can go with whoever so take a mental note of everyone on the coach in case we get lost. The climb to the top is really steep and makes me realise a) i'm no longer young and b) i'm not as fit as i once was. We reach the first tower and the views are breathtaking, it is the most amazing sight only comparable to the Grand Canyon. From looking 360 degrees every view is stunning with huge mountains dominating everywhere with this huge man-made structure built into them. The section of the wall we're walking is one of the most demanding with some inclines of 70 degrees, we're having to climb parts of the wall not walk them and with some parts crumbling and huge drops either side my problem with heights is tested. It's really hot and the sweat is pouring off us, Nic carries the bag the whole 4.5 hours which makes her wonder woman in my eyes and makes me Mr. Muscle to everybody else. We even how to lower ourselves down without protection from falling off a sheer drop. It is at this point we start talking to a couple of people from our coach called Ketan and Max, Ketan is especially nice and talks to us for the remainder of the journey. We arrive at our end point and try to recover smelling oddly and with a thick layer of sweat all over our body. We get on the coach knackered but grateful for what we have just done and achieved. The shower at the hostel is almost as good as the wall and we got to the same restaurant as the previous night ordering the same food. We go to a bar called the 10 RMB bar which does exactly as it states selling all drinks for that price about 80p. We start off with beer but move quickly onto cocktails and meet an Australian guy called Steve who's just moved to Beijing, we leave the bar drunk for 7 pounds finishing off an amazing day.
