Ingrid and I decided to take in the sights of downtown Santiago. We started at the Palacio de Bellas Artes which houses a moderate but interesting assortment of Chilean and European artwork. The building itself is a sight to see. It was modeled after the Petit Palace in Paris.
Afterwards we headed down to the Plaza de Armas. The plaza was bustling and there was an orchestra playing hits from the Beatles. Key public buildings lining the plaza are the Catedral Metropolitana and Correos Chile, both dating back to the 1500īs. A statue of Pedro de Valdivia can also be seen in the plaza. Pedro de Valdivia founded Santiago in 1541.
