It is such a small world! Last week I met up with Alexandra Gibney ¨my little sister¨ from SAPS...laugh it up. She is living here for a semester studying Spanish at Diego Portales University. We went to barrio Bellavista and took in the sights on cerro San Cristòbal, which is the site of Parque Metropolitano, Santiago´s largest open space. In the park there is an art museum, a zoo, and a botanical garden. From the bottom of the cerro we took the funicular to the top and then took the telefèrico (gondola) around the park. At the top of the cerro is a statue of the Virgin Mary and a beautiful little chapel. Fortunately there was good visibility so we could see a lot of the city. The smog was still very evident, it is pretty bad here. I overheard someone saying that Santiago has the worst air pollution in South America.
I have been helping Ingrid, the mother of the family I am staying with, baby sit her grandchildren and today we went to Los Dominicos. Los Dominicos is an open air craft market in barrio Las Condes where you can buy typical Chilean goods. The market, which is Santiago´s largest craft selection, is the site of an old Dominican monastery. I was fortunate enough to take some great photos at sunset. Check them out...
