After our busy day running around Athens we boarded a plane that took us to Venice and finally into fall weather. We arrived late in the evening and made our way on the bus to a camping site on the other side of the lagoon from Venice. We stayed in a trailer type bunk that was fairly comfortable aside from a few giant mosquitos.
Early the next morning we took a water taxi across the lagoon and started exploring Venice on foot. We wandered past the Piazza San Marco to see the Basilica and the Palacio Ducale. The piazza was swarming with thousands of hungry pigeons fed by overly eager tourists. We snacked on typical Italian fare of pizza and ice cream for lunch and then visited the Accademia museum. Here we spent approximately 3 hours taking in the bulk of the museums exhibits before the leg fatigue set in. We recharged on another ice cream( a steal at 1 euro a piece) and found a new favorite flavor- pistachio.
We ventured into Venice again the following morning to wander the streets one more time before taking the train to Florence in the afternoon.
