Well I am here and still kicking! It has been a whirl wind of activity ever since I have gotten here. The flight was ok, didn't sleep much, but it was only 8.5 hours so I can't complain.
My apartment is bigger than some of the places that I have lived in Waterloo. I am sharing a room with another girl, Jackie, but it is pretty big and I have a closet, which if you have seen any of my houses in Waterloo, that is a huge deal! There is one other girl that lives with me who has been here before, so that is helpful. There are no screens on the windows so bugs and other small creatures walk freely in and out. My first night I had a lizard jump at me, but I am getting used to it, and I sleep under a bug net, so I am not getting bitten too badly. I live off of a orphanage and I can go over and play with the kids as much as I want, it is so much fun, and they are fascinated with how white I am.
I went to work yesterday and I found out I am going to be teaching the kids at the orphanage how to swim, being a first aid instructor, heading a huge project where I am going to get Christmas presents to about 800 kids who can't afford presents, and working with the youth group. And thats all I know, I have not really been given any specifics on what I will be doing but a least I have an idea.
Went to the market today, I stick out like a sore thumb, and I was walking around with two other white girls, so I have been called every version of white girl you could think of, but I guess I will get used to it.
People are so nice here though, I have met so many people and I am not having a hard time understanding people as they speak, it is just when they are speaking to each other their accents get very strong.
Overall I am having a great time, but sweating up a storm! Hopeing that will get better, people tell me it will! I will keep you all updated when I can get to an Internet Cafe!
