So I haven't been doing much exciting the past two weeks; homework has been getting me down some. I'm planning to knock a lot of it out this weekend and hopefully get around town a bit too.
I have been spending some time trying out the different cafes in town. There are some really great ones that I've enjoyed. I really like that you can get one drink and sit and read for hours and no one cares at all. Awesome. Sometime two weeks back I spent one day just walking around the inner city area after hanging out in a cafe for a while, and I ended up finding and checking out a bunch of churches, which is kind of cool. When they build churches here, they don't mess around. Even if the church seats twenty people. Today I got out of class and went to a cafe and then still felt like roaming, and I ended up finding more churches and the old Vienna University (old as in 1385-1885, at which point the "new" one was built)
Tuesday I got to go eat at the UN cafeteria here. That was cool. Mark, the guide who gave me and my family a tour of the place when they we here, invited me in, which is the only way a civilian can get into the cafeteria. To summarize: cheap and awesome. With great vegetarian options. I'd pay 2.50 EUR for a plate of veggie tacos any day.
That's really all I have for now. As a side-note, there are seriously a lot of churches in the inner city, as I've learned. Just from what I know there are 15 (Stephansdom, Peterskirche, Karlskirche, Maria am Gestade Kirche, Kirche am Hof, Michaelerkirche, Minoritenkirche, Schottenkirche, Franziskanerkirche, Jesuitenkirche/Universitätskirche, Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church, Dominikanerkirche, Kapuzinerkirche, Augustinerkirche, Burgkapelle), and I'm probably forgetting or ignorant of several more.

. It's kind of fun to just walk around and see what can be found. I like doing that a lot. Especially since I can stop in one of the countless cafes or bakeries for a break.Tuesday I got to go eat at the UN cafeteria here. That was cool. churches and cafes
old churches and cool cafes, nice combination! i have tried to fine an 'old world' bakery in kansas city since we got back with no luck. where was the old university located? incredible to think of an institution that held classes for 5 or 6 hundred years in one place! hope you stay in touch with mark, that was nice of him to have you in the cafeteria. dad
more pics!
patrick, would love to see some of your more recent photos!
