Today was my first day of classes here. Actually, I won't normally have classes on Mondays, but today I met with my German professor to discuss the independent study class I'm taking. I'll be reading a lot of Austrian literature and enjoying the supplemental art and theatre that the city can offer. Tomorrow I'll actually have some traditional classes.

A few days ago I went with the other Americans to the Museum Moderner Kunst (Modern Art), which was awesome and had a huge exhibit of Erwin Wurm, who I am now convinced is cool. They also had the original script of John Cage's "4'33"", which excited me a lot. A few Yoko Ono pieces, too.

I spend a fair amount of time on public transportation. It's how you get around, naturally. Therefore I find it funny that the one Straßenbahn (streetcar) stop that deposits you straight into moving traffic is the one closest to the dorms. At least the traffic understands and stops when people are getting off the tram. But it's funny.

So I may not like everything about America and all, but there are some things that are certainly more easy to appreciate. For example, here, everyone takes lunch breaks from 12:30-3. But don't expect to shop too late, because they probably close by 6, and don't even think about Sunday. Actually, some of the only stores open Sundays are in the Westbahnhof (West Train Station), so me and my friend Jon went over there to get access to a "supermarket" (in quotes due to small size). I think the trade-off of hours is that there are so many small stores here, and that is great.

It has come to my attention that I think you have to sign up to leave comments. Weird. If you don't feel like doing that, just email me at patrickvacek@gmail.com. But on the bright side: pictures!
