After yet another near 24-hour bus ride to Santiago, the first time, incidentally, that I have not embarked on a mission so long alone, we have arrived in this beautiful capital city.  It was much more comfortable than the ride to San Pedro de Atacama, partly because it was a newer, cleaner double-decker bus and for the first time in a while, I wasn't doing it solo.  I even felt productive too - I managed to finish reading a book that I had just started reading earlier in the week and that is truly an accomplishment for me.

We took the metro (!) from the Alameda bus terminal to a stop close to the Plaza de Armas, where we got off and walked a few blocks up to our hostel, which is beautifully situated on the 6th floor of a building on the south side of the plaza, offering breathtaking views of the vibrant square.  Props to Julia for booking us there...

After taking showers and spending a good amount of time on the Internet, we took a short walk over to the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino (Chilean Museum of Precolumbian Art), which hosts a wide array of artifacts from many pre-Columbian American civilizations, and is free on Sundays...

Thereīs something about the street life here thatīs enchanting and leaves something to be desired when I think about back home.  You can just feel the life and vibrancy strolling along the pedestrian sidewalks, watching evangelical groups preach, mimes entertain, street performers dazzle, shop owners sell, families enjoying a Sunday afternoon ...

Tomorrow, we plan on doing a day trip to the coastal cities of Valparaiso and Viņa del Mar, less than 2 hours away from Santiago and about 15 min away from each other...
