Capital of Ecuador & the middle of the world!
After arriving back from Galapagos to Guayaquil, we hopped straight on a 10 hour bus to Quito. After departing the bus and reaching the hostel, we just conked out. The next morning, we met with Claud and Dean for lunch. Our day was spent on a hop on, hop off tour bus but really, there wasn't a whole pile to see. That evening, we went for dinner in a tiny local restaurant which only sold 1 meal- skewers, potatoes, rice and fried banana. It was so good! After, we went for drinks in the centre of Quito. A great night was had! Our second morning in Quito was spent on numerous public transport, trying to reach the "Middle of the World" museums. The first museum (Mitad del Mundo) was basically a statue where we got numerous photos. This was surrounded by shops, restaurants and museums. We also went to see a show in the planetarium. Unfortunately, it was all in Spanish so we hadn't a clue what was going on. The second museum, up the road was more fun with demonstrations on the equator. We saw how water turned clockwise/anti clockwise depending on which side of the equator the sink was on, we also saw how hard it was to walk a straight line across the equator and even how hard it was to balance an egg here. It was great craic! There was also a bizarre collection of toten poles, snake skins, models of traditional houses, blow pipes and a shrunken human head. The guided tour was very cheesy and really entertaining. That night, we visited a big shopping centre, got food and watched the new movie "Django-Unchained" in the cinema. It was really enjoyable! The following day, we got an early bus to Otovalo which is close to the Colombian border.
