With Jimmy and Ben in the back seat of our Mercedes E Class we followed the Romantic Road back to the time of Kind Ludwig and the Neuschwanstein Castle. The mystic was enhanced by the mountain mist or rather we couldn't seen anything because it was pouring with rain! A 20 minute uphill hike took us to the base of the castle and then a 20 minute fight through the crowds got us in. We didn't encounter any dragons but something much more fierce... elderly Asian ladies armed with umbrellas and very little English. Protected only by our rubbish bag like ponchos we had no hope defending ourselves. Our 9 euro tour around the castle lasted about 30 minutes before being sent out through the servants staircase and back out into the rain - but not before passing through their authentic King Ludwig souvenir store. Only 17 of the planned 100 + rooms were completed but they did the job well. In the King's bed chamber alone a team of 14 wood carvers spent 4 years. The castle came complete with a fake cave, flowing water and a telephone. Definitely worth it for the 172 days of residence by the King.

Now dripping wet and with souvenirs in hand it was time to hit the road. With my new found confidence in foreign driving it was a perfect opportunity to "open it up" and see what the Merc had to offer. After hitting the highway and working out that a crossed-out number means the usual "speed limit" or lack there of was enforced I managed to get the E Class up to 200Km/Hr though it seemed to struggle from there... I blame it on the excessive luggage. The initial highway leg was just over 300Km and we achieved this in about 1.5 Hours... averaging about 150Km an hour - nice!

We are now staying in a small, very German, town called Weimar. Tomorrow morning we get to sleep in slightly but then it will be on to Berlin which is about 300Kms away - we should be able to make it in about 30mins :P

Hopefully there will be some photos to acompany this shortly and we will update again when we're not so exhusted.

Cheers,

Pat & Grace

Hello from Suncorp
Hey PatnGrace,

Be thankful this site isn't blocked by Suncorp. It probably will be tomorrow! :P

Anyway, unlike my parents - speeding in an E-Class is totally cool and it sounded like it was in the rain which makes it even better! Just kidding Mum - stop stressing. I can hear it from here! hahaha!

This is a really great idea but you put 'mystic' instead of 'mystique' just wanted to make sure your spelling continues to improve whilst in a foreign country. No excuse to get lazy simply because you visiting castles and such :P

Grace will like to know Poker continues well. I have the account up to $540ish which means I have contributed around $35 - I am soooo good :P

Keep these posts coming - loving it!
