Ushuaia
Ushuaia

Friday, 11 March 2005: this is the evening of the night before. We are ready to go, no excuses left, we have to start cycling now. Oh dear!

Due to a lack of flights we spent a few extra days in Buenos Aires. We took this opportunity to spend a day taking in the sights taking photos. That evening we found ourselves a nice little restaurant for a bite to eat and goblet of wine to drink, but awoke the next morning to realise that our bag, along with Starky`s cutting edge and ever-so-expensive camera, had been left inside. We then spent the whole of the next day waiting outside! We got so bored that dog turd became interesting! (If you have been to Buenos Aires you might understand this one.)

We also visited the British Embassy to let them know what we`re up to. We met the British Consul who asked asked us a couple of question: if we were well insured and whether we had a puncture kit. We responded in the affirmative. He also pointed out that his job would be made a lot easier if we were to die rather than just get ill or injured. Reassuring! He offered to take copies of our passports and only then realised that Starky was an imposter (or should that be wannabe Brit!)

We arrived in Ushuaia from Buenos Aires on Thursay evening, cycling the 3 miles from the airport to our B&B. Philsy nearly came off his bike, but only 6497 miles to go! The climate change has been a bit of a shock: 30 degrees celcius to 7, and a decided wind chill. Earlier today we reviewed our bikes after another bout of airline vandalism (even though we nearly missed the flight for spending so much time wrapping them up). After some tightening up and straightening up and a visit to yet another bike shop, all seems to be in order. We`ll see!

Tomorrow we go.
