Unfortunately, we had two students who did not pay attention when Beccah reiterated several times the importance of being at the school on time, and as a result, we were not on the road until about 8:45am.
We still felt that students needed a little push (encouragement) to get to know their fellow delegates, so Beccah used their Koala photos as seat markers. Wherever your Koala photo was sitting, that was to be their assigned seat for this next leg of the journey. Most students took advantage of this opportunity to get to know the ones they had not yet had the chance to get to know
Overall, we have been happy with how the group has been treating each other. They all seem to be watching out for each other, and when one seems to be left out, they try hard to make that person feel included.
We finally arrived at Mecure Capircorn Resort in Yeppoon just in time to drop our things in our room and head straight to dinner - buffet style. After dinner, we all went out to a grassy area just outside our building for a game. Beccah called it Fruit Salad. Pairs of students were assigned a name of a fruit. Students sat facing their pairs, in a row, with legs extended straight and toes touching their pair. When a pair's fruit name is called, those students get up, hurdle over the sets of legs on the ground until the end of the row, race around the back of the rows, then hurdle over the rest of the legs until they got back to their seats
It was good to have JP there, because after our game, we split the group up by gender to have a little discussion with them about appropriate behaviors. Now that they were starting to become comfortable with each other, we wanted to make sure that noone overstepped any invisible boundaries. Overall, it seems that they all responded to our discussion in a positive way. The long coach drive really zapped our energy, and after sending them all up to their rooms, we all went straight to bed.
