So bright and early, we awoke to head out to the Great Barrier Reef... We met up with our very own marine biologist, Kayla, who was assigned to stay with us the whole time. We got on the ferry (the Reef Magic III) and not long into our journey, people began losing their breakfast. The Reef Magic crew members were very quick to tend to those who were getting sick. The ill were rushed to the back of the ship where there was less movement. I'd say about 75% of our delegation ended up in that "safe zone".

About 15 students signed up to scuba, but in the end, I think only about 8 followed through, Almost everyone at least went in the water to snorkel and experienced the 82 degree waters of the Pacific Ocean. Some ended up swallowing a significant amount of sea water while they were snorkeling because the waves would come up and over into the snorkel!

After lunch, most of the students had decided that they had enough of snorkeling and spent the reset of the day sunning on the top deck. Jean-Paul (the CA Admissions Advisor from the Program Office) and I spent a bit of time chatting with the ones up on the sun deck. It was fun giggling with them and getting to know them.

We started boarding the ferry to head back to the main land at about 3:00, and we finally started heading back at about 3:45. Not wanting to be tempted to join the puke parade, I chose to sit up with the fresh air on the back of the ferry on the upper deck. There was more pitching and weaving of the ship, but from where I was, it didn't seem that bad. (Although I ended up getting baptized a few times with sea spray!)

We found ourselves back on land at about 5:00, and after a short shopping trip in the ferry terminal gift shop, we headed back to our temporary home at the Ibis Styles Cairns Colonial Club Resort.

Dinner has been scheduled for 7pm, and students will have some free time before and after that to swim in the resort pool. Bed checks and packing time are at 9:30 since we have an early morning wake up call tomorrow (5:30) so that we can be on the road for our 10 hour ride to our farm stay.

We will not have wifi, let alone cell reception during our two days on the farm, so don't expect any postings for a few days. Once I get to our home stay, I will try to go back and post the pics from our farm stay.
