Late start on Tuesday. We all go for a walk through and around Valley Gardens in Harroagate. Our appartment overlooks this magnificent and diverse public area. Overlooked by terraced appartments like ours on one side and the imposing Windsor House on the other the gardens contain a number of formal garden areas, a small stream, a large roman portico, a New Zealand garden with Kiwi sculpture, children's playgrounds and paddle pool, electric boat pond, pitch and putt course, frisbee golf course and forrest walk. At the top end we could see south to the next line of hills and a large windfarm.
The girls went to the famous Betty's Tea Rooms for afternoon tea
I headed off the catch the end of the picnic day at Ripley Castle for the team photos. I parked in Sir Thomas' front courtyard and went in but found that the picnic was down the other side of the lake so I drove down with one of the Townsvill Old Crocs who was looking for the picnic also. I just missed the jousting b ut caught the flaconry demo. Not the day to be one of the taller in the crowd. These birds swoop very low, two at a time and very impressive. Fired a crossbow, almost a bullseye, Thomo and Elwyn got bulls, no surprise there.
After dropping Stoddy and Horse back to the Holiday Inn, I dropped in at the Harrogate Cricket Ground, which is not being used for the Golden Oldies as there is a youth tournament on this week also. Not too impressive at present as the old clubhouse has burnt down but Yorkshire played regularly here up until a few years ago and it also hosted Don Bradman and his Australian team on one tour.
Pie for dinner and early night for a change.
