The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, is about 110 kms west of Bangkok, so it takes us a couple of hours to get there (more sleep time!). The market is busy as we arrive and i soon get caught up in the excitement. There are static markets on the edge of the canal and then the floating stalls on the canal. The tour guide for the day tells us about the market and then leads us to a long boat, kinda like a rowing boat. We all pile on to the wooden seats and start out 30min trip up and down the canal. The boat stops at some of the stalls and they are all filled with the same souvenirs, jade budda's and woodern carvings. I am annoyed that i didn't come here just before going home as i would have loved to buy somethings for my house, but i have another 9 months travelling yet, so i restrained myself and just enjoyed the boat ride. The canal is filled with passenger boats, moving fruit stall boats, tied souvenirs boats and larger passenger boats with outboards. So naturally we get stuck in a traffic jam, it is great sitting there in the sun listening to the boat owners all shouting at each other in Thai trying to get through first!
