June 2 - Left for Brazil today. I cancelled and/or traded my cell phone in for a phone card. Met the most interesting people on the plane. There was the sweetest little girl who couldn't seem stop looking at me. Later, her mother told me that I looked like her father. They were all Brazilian. This made it clear to me that I was probably going to fit in just fine.
June 3 - When we landed in San Paulo everyone cheered and applauded. Surprised, I had to wonder if I had missed something important during the flight because the attendants were speaking in Portuguese. Later I would learn that this was a cultural difference and probably only happens in Brazil. Seemingly everyone was celebrating the fact that the plane landed safely (partly jokingly and partly not). Gotta lov a people that celebrates the fact the plane landed in one piece.
Arrived in Porte Allegre and tried a cheese bread concoction called pão de queijo. I love pão de queijo. Soon after, I was picked at the airport for a two hour drive to Santa Cruz do Sul, the place where I will be living for the next 2 months. Before arriving at the home, I got to meet all the people at the language school where I will be learning Portuguese and participating with the English Classes. Then went to a churrascaria for the best BBQ I've ever had in my life.
