kiks and i waited on a broken down train for an hour before finally making it to avignon france- a tiny little medieval town that was home to several popes back in the 13th and 14th century. apparently this town is so tiny that they have never heard english because you say one english word and they go blank- like they dont say a word and they go blank! good thing i could piece together a few sentences to knock them out of their english enduced comas! i was ok after a few tries of french and finally got the hang of it. we eventually made it to the island in the middle of the river where we were staying and drank a few tallboys by the river. the palace des papes was lit up and it was beautiful. there is also an ancient bridge that has been washed away by the swell of the river and also destroyed by wars and take overs. it is actually a bridge to nowhere now. avignon still has its original walls up and is contained. there are very cool examples of medievil architecture everywhere and they seem to keep it all in great shape. we toured the palace the next day and then left avingnon for paris....
ps there were kitties at our hostel, damn cute ones! i miss my boys!
