Where I stayed
Well our second instalment centres on our experience at Iguazu Falls. After 4 great days in BA we flew up to Iguazu - about an hour and a half - would have been less but for the 20 minutes the pilot spent circling the falls so we could all get photos and videos! First thing we noted was how much hotter it was there than BA. Our hostel was great, clean, efficient and helpful staff - with one exception - and a good location, just 10 minutes from the Falls. We arrived early afternoon and decided to get straight down to the Falls rather than feel as though we´d lost a day. We were glad we made the effort because we saw the main attraction Garganta del Diablo - the Devil´s Throat, a fall so powerful it was quite an amazing and mesmerizing experience. It was packed due to the Easter holiday but we managed to get great photos and videos some of which you can see.
We spent our second and only full day exploring the rest of the Falls from the Argentine side, there were so many beautiful sights, our camera was on the go almost non-stop. We took a boat ride that ended up going headlong into one of the most powerful falls - we tried desperately hard to keep our eyes open, but the power of the water made it impossible. Gayle sensibly wore bikini with bare feet - clothes stored in the waterproof bag we were provided with. I didn´t - instead remained in shorts, t-shirt hiking socks and boots - and got absolutely soaked. Boots were squelching for the rest of the day and only dried out yesterday, 2 days later! GB did chuckle - lots in fact.
Our last day was spent exploring the falls from the Brazilian side - less of an experience because you´re not so close, but no less impressive because the panorama´s are better - at least I think so but GB thinks the Argentine side is better all round. See for yourself in some of the photos.
After almost missing our return flight to BA thanks to a less than helpful staff member at the hostel, we flew back on Monday night. Now we´re in Uruguay for 4 days chilling on the beaches of Montevideo and Punta del Este. The weather is still glorious, sorry to those of you freezing your butts off in the recent snow, but we hadn´t anticipated this when we set off, so every day of sunshine feels like a bonus. Luckily GB packed some bikinis and suncream just in case.....
Watch out for a review of Uruguay later this week, for now 'hasta luego amigos' xx
